( the insult is that FCP X won't see the chapter markers if you import it back into FCP X. If you export a file from FCPX with Chapter Marker enabled then both QT Player and Toast Titanium will see them when you open/import the file.

Is there ANY software at all that works under El Capitan? I've resorted to an older MBP with Snow Leopard and bring the output from FCPX there to author a DVD.

Take out the chapter markers (and tried adding with FCPX, Compressor, iMovie - all fail) and the burn to a VIDEO_TS folder works fine. Is there no DVD authoring program any longer that will recognize Chapters? iDVD (under El Capitan) reports an error at the instant it goes to render the video section. Late to this party and held off on El Capitan for a while, coming from Mavericks. I was hoping that after playing each chapter, it would go back to the main menu. The one gotcha was that after that particular chapter is done it goes right into the next chapter. The Chapters looked great and each click played the chapter. The photo was cropped on the main screen and I guess that is not customizable. Added a Jpg photo background, then burned disk. I Checked 'Use Chapter marker text as subtitles(?). Brought Master file into Compressor using DVD presets. I exported that clip (including Chapter markers) as a master file. I started with a one minute clip that I added 6 chapter markers, and Modified the names Videos 1 through 6. I thought I'd just experiment with Compressor to build a very simple DVD.
